Slice of Life #5 - #6
*Update*
Looks like I missed the cutoff time for day 5, so I am going to submit this on day 6
I started a new exercise program recently. So now everyday I prepare by gathering the proper equipment. I wear loose-fitting clothes and tennis shoes. I get a water bottle full of cool water and the resistance band the exercise program sent me with the DVD's.
Once ready I can begin! I push play on the remote and the fun commences. (Although not always fun, it is important to have the right attitude. It helps with motivation. ) For the next 30 minutes or so I am stretched. twisted, and put my muscles to the test. The nice trainer on the DVD encourages me to keep at it and I'll get stronger the more I repeat this. Many days I really don't want to perform this new routine of mine and it is hard to get started. But I always feel good after I am finished and I am glad that I did it.
In the same way........
I started a new writing challenge recently. So now everyday I prepare by gathering the proper equipment. Sometimes I get my notebook and pen first, but usually I just need my trusty computer. I fill my coffee mug and get comfortable.
Once ready I can begin! I login to my blogger account and the fun commences. ( Although not always fun, it is important to have the right attitude. It helps with motivation.) For the next 30 minutes or so I am stretched as a writer, twisting and wringing my hands as my writing muscles are put to the test. The nice readers, by way of comments, encourage me. I know that I wll get stronger the more I keep at it. Many days I really don't want to perforn this new routine of writing daily, but I persevere and I always feel good after I am finished and I am glad that I did it.
Determine that the thing can and shall be done,
and then we shall find the way.

I love the comparison of writing and working out. Both definitely require the same effort and routine. Well done on both accounts!
I also love the comparison...day six with the writing and I'm feeling the pinch. The stitch is setting in for me. I'm inspired by your post to take a deep breath and hang in there.
You nailed it Mary. It does feel just like starting a new routine that you have to set aside time for everyday. And you're right. There are days it doesn't feel so fun.
Your parallels are terrific. I never really thought about this writing as a routine but of course it is. Now I know why my brain muscles hurt so bad while I tried to come up with a topic last night. Exercise can be fun but your not really exercising unless you are pushing yourself.
NIce way to tie your exercise program and writing together! I liked the "twisting and wringing of hands" line. The stretching as a writer--so important in this challenge...thanks for sharing this
Both are easy to put off but important. It took me almost all of last school year to figure out how to put exercise first. Now I am using slice of life to help me work on the writin piece. Good luck!
Wonderful words to link these two new routines. Keep twisting and stretching...you're stronger already!
I love this, Mary. Exercise and writing both require time and a commitment and both make us healthier people! Thanks for sharing and for helping us reflect on the "right attitude" that "helps with motivation." :)
I agree with all of the other commenters- great connections! I am doing ok with the writing routine, but I need to get going on the exercise…
You make a clear connection between writing and exercising. I like how you try to fit both in your days. I have neglected the physical exercise and need to figure out what are the obstacles.
I like the quote. I am glad you are writing. I hope you are still willing to jump in and keep going. I like how you compared writing to the physical exercise - they both have great rewards.
I've looked and looked for you. Your comments meant so much to me when I started this challenge! I decided for the comment challenge that I would post on everyone's blog who had posted on mine. Dear friend, please pick up that pen or head for the keyboard and begin anew! I've missed you! I love your quote by Abraham Lincoln. You were one of the folks that I considered nominating for the commenting award. I hope to see you on SOLSC to finish out the month.
Oh, and I do need to rededicate myself anew to exercising. Thanks for the reminder to stretch my body too!
